Lost In Limbo

I believe the first time I listened to Lost In Limbo was at the food truck park located on Broadway Street in Mcallen. They were playing a set and within the food truck park there was benches and families just enjoying the music. I was there with friends, I posted a video along with a picture of them on my story until @cam1eeann replied and said something along the lines of "My friend is in the band! Lost In Limbo!" and I got the opportunity to see them again at Cine El Rey as they opened up for Jasper and Girl Ultra. When It comes to Lost In Limbo I really enjoy their R&B sound along with some songs being in Spanish which are just incredible. They completely threw me off guard at Cine El Rey. Have you listened to Lost In Limbo? Well they're on Spotify and they'll be performing during the week of MxLan as well also this is their feature @lostinlimbomusic!

We begin by introducing the musicians within Lost In Limbo,

Caleb- guitarist

Emiliano- guitarist

Mariana- singer

Joseph-drums

Jeremy-bass

We learn what the members of Lost In Limbo have been enjoying as of recently "Enjoying films and listening to music. We have a little more time in the summer to explore sound and try new things. For example, there are days when we pick up our instruments and we are inspired by different sounds—whether it be disco, funk, folk, ballads, etc. Currently, we don’t try to limit ourselves in the music that we want to do. We just run with it." As they mention "explore sound and try new things" they actually released a new song called "crush on you" which was released well this summer! Are there any shout-outs they would like to give out "Shoutout to the social media accounts and people in the valley for promoting and supporting local talent. Special shoutout to Bummershed, Purotigersblood, RamJam and outinthe956!"

We begin by asking how they would describe their sound as they say " blend of multiple genres some including disco, pop, indie, rock and folk." To which they also say "dynamic" with numerous genres. I can see that especially with the vocals from English and Spanish as well. The "indie", "disco", and even R&B sounds I've been able to catch. Very diverse to say the least.

How did the band form? How did they all meet as they share "In high school Caleb and Emiliano met at a talent show and they got together to jam. Both decided they needed a drummer and hit up Joseph. They realized they also needed a singer and Mariana came up on Caleb's fyp. (All of us in the same school) Caleb asked Mariana if she wanted to join the band and said yes. In February 2020 the band was formed. When we started playing live, we needed a bassist and eventually found Jeremy and we asked him to stay." Woah so they all went to school together? Interesting how it all came it be. From one thing to another they are now Lost In Limbo. With almost 2 years of experience they have music on Spotify and have some shows under their belt as well besides the knowledge of music they have as well. That's so fun being in a band since school! I was in band class in 6th grade, but it's no where near anything like this experience haha.

What does each member of the band bring to the table as they say "Each of us brings different influences, ideas and personalities that end up blending together and creating music. Instruments usually come up with chord progression ideas and Mariana writes the melodies and lyrics. Inspiration can strike anywhere so we like to either write it down or send a recording to the group chat as soon as we think we have something." As mentioned earlier "indie, disco, pop, rock, and folk" these could be their own influences that they implement into their music. Each of them coming together and "creating music." Music seems to just be on the mind! There's been times where I think of something, but I just don't have anything to write it on (I know yeah I could write it on my notes on my phone, but it doesn't quite hit the same) so I end up losing my thought. I wonder if there's any songs or melodies that got created this way.

Do they remember where they first played? How was it compared to their most recent set? "The first time we played live was full of mixed emotions. We were nervous (we didn't know what we were doing most of the time) and we were excited to start playing live. No amount of rehearsals prepares you for the first time playing live. Our most recent performance was at Cine El Rey and it was a completely different experience. We were excited to work with pro equipment and opening up for someone who has a following and has been in the industry." As they say "no amount of rehearsals prepares you" and I can agree with that. You can never be overconfident because you never know what can happen. The least expected can always happen. They mention their performance at Cine which is interesting with my first time seeing them perform at the food trucks to opening up to Girl Ultra if I'm not mistaken! Now they'll performing Thursday at MxLan! What comes next? We shall see.

How do they feel about performing at mxlan? What does it mean to them as they say "Seeing that people have trust and hope that we can bring a good set and that our hard work is paying off is a validating experience." I feel like they may be doubting themselves, but they can most definitely do it! The moment comes just a few hours away. They'll be doing their set and it'll be done in not time. It's interesting how we wait for a moment we may be agonizing or just be nervous about. Once you're in the moment time will definitely pass by. I believe in them just as much as everyone else. They continue by mentioning what they look forward to as well tomorrow 7/28/22 "We are excited for the reaction of the crowd and take it as an opportunity to learn from established musicians. Listening to big names like the ones headlining and now playing the same set is incredible." I can see that for sure. The various sounds and see how everyone does their sets as well. Being able to learn and speak to the other musicians would be good! I look forward to seeing them perform!

With currently 7 songs under their belt could we be seeing an EP or an Album coming soon or? "There are some things on the way for sure! We are working hard for it to sound the way we want it to sound. In the end, we try to serve the music and we are simply the people putting it on display." As mentioned earlier they did drop a new single called "crush on you", but there is also absolutely no rush when it comes to any ones work! It'll all be worth it even with any snippet released on their socials.

Do they have a favorite track they've released? If so which one? "Most of them are unreleased songs but there’s one specific song that we find cinematic and that has pushed us as musicians" I wonder which one that could be? Do you have a favorite track you've listened to or seen played live by Lost In Limbo?

When it comes to vocals and the instrumentals it all intertwines very well. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like there have been some songs performed in Spanish? Are these new songs? What do you think or feel this adds to the music singing in both languages? Can we expect one of these Spanish tracks to drop soon?

"We like to have our background influence our music. While making music in Spanish we reach a different audience and it also gives music a different feeling. Our Spanish songs are not next in line but we are working on them." While they may not be next in line they are always a treat to listen to live for sure. Maybe we'll hear one tonight who knows? We shall see!

What sort of feedback have they received on their work? "We have gotten good feedback from different people. but one that we value incredibly were the security guards from Cine El Rey. They have watched big names on the stage perform and said that they really enjoyed our set and we were one of their favorites to ever perform." Yo that's pretty cool! I wonder how they've been working there and who they have seen perform. That's really nice though.

Listening to Falling and the 3 tracks on In Dreams, what would they say they enjoy the most about their sound/style?

"We like that they are out there serving as a timeline for us growing as a band, once we put something out we move to explore a different sound" As previously mentioned they work with their influences and how they mesh them together which brings out a lot from the members to work together. From their sets to the music released it is a timeline to where they are now. What will that new sound be? Only time will tell.

What would be the creative process when working together on a song?

"It's different every time someone brings in an idea and we build from there, feeding off each other's energy and trusting the vision."

How do you wish to grow with the band?

"Focusing on growing as individuals, our friendship and definitely as musicians a public presence will come as a result." Friendship is very important. I meant they all basically met in high school and in the same school! The bond and trust amongst each others is key. Trusting the sounds and giving it a chance. With different influences as mentioned and the ideas they note amongst each other it sounds like they have communication down to a t. When it comes to presence yes we have social media, but a lot of the times it comes from word of mouth. The times people play the tracks in the car or at pop ups. Highly encourage adding local tracks to playlists!

If you could play in any line up what would it be?

"The Strokes, Beck, Dijon and The Marias"

I feel like I know only 1 Beck song, but this is my chance to give a re-listening to! I don't think I've listened to Dijon, but hey there's always room for new music!

Lost In Limbo shares their thoughts on the local valley scene,

It is great that there is a place for local musicians to explore sound and artists to get out there and express themselves.

Along with one final comments,

Take advantage of time and never stop learning! Follow your dreams and trust yourself.
