I stumbled upon Noodl when local artist Menez tagged Madison the artist behind Noodl on an Instagram post which piqued my curiosity months ago. Looking upon her art it was cute, but it feels welcoming at the same time ; from the font styles, color palette, and the smiles and so on. I enjoy the feeling her art embodies. It all just comes together really well! Funny thing that's just the surface, but once you dig deeper you stumble upon some really vibrant pieces with colors that compliment each other along with its designs for example,
It's been a year since they released merchandise and it's a year since they created Noodl. They recently came back with a merch drop collaborating with with Naason Valadez (@naason.andrew) and had a "Glory Days" capsule which was separated within days; it was a release that was rather interesting. The statement behind Glory Days just sells it to me "this is a tribute to all the winners who don't care about winning and just wanna have some fun." Now if that isn't positivity I don't know what is. Moving onto the merchandise, the first capsule out of the 3 consisted of baseball themed t-shirts and leading onto the 2nd capsule being basketball t-shirts and a hoodie with one specifically being a tye dye hoodie. A nice selection of merchandise released with color styles and the designs just keeps it together and kills it! It's such a good release, keep an eye out for what's to come!
Although we did get a sneak peak into the final capsule that we got permission to share the readers.
What is shown is a preview of what was going to be released in the capsule number 3. A track jacket which was inspired by Madison's track jacket she had in high school. As she mentions "we changed the name and colors and boom" stating "probably my favorite piece in the collection because track was always my favorite sport" she says. Personally cardio based exercise was not my favorite and I was the type to walk the mile, but with this track jacket I'd be able to run at least half.
The Artist:
Madison Bickerton is a graphic designer and the owner of the brand Noodl.
Favorite artist being Brockhampton due how open they are with their creative process. Along with their extremely fun experiences their concerts are. (I have to agree due to the collectiveness of the artists within the group. Each member offers something to the table from their vocals, lyrics, and production.)
Favorite food will always be french toast but specifically from Manuel's Cafe in Port Isabel. (I have never been to Port Isabel, but for french toast? It might just be worth the drive!)
Favorite Local artists starting off with music arts such as Isaiah Flowers (which is on our stream if you wish to check him out.) Joelito, Joseph Stingley and 5k Marathon. (I will most definitely have to check these guys out for sure. Nothing like adding new music to the stream.)
Now with artist Madison mentions their instagram handles which are all worth a follow @jumexgod, @hiviscosity and @la.damaaaa
To top it off Madison mentions the local business Semilla Coffee Lab due to their amazing instagram along with their coffee and branding. (I'm not much of a coffee drinker, but I'd have to check it out one of these days.)
Let's get down to the bread an butter:
Madison has been drawing "ever since she could pick up a pencil" she says. Sounds to me like she's just naturally gifted, but she continues to say "my parents were once art majors and are very talented themselves." So it sounds like being naturally gifted, but might as well be genetics! What exactly lead to the creation of Noodl or rather the inspiration? Well None other than Tyler, The Creator. Madison explains "he's this wacky character that doesn't seem to care about anything other than being himself and creating the things he loves." Which is what Madison wants to "embody" Noodl with.
As an artist we must have our own favorite piece and Madison speaks about a "collection of felt juice boxes that I made for an exhibition." The exhibition was called The Juice Exhibition. Mentioning how proud the exhibition brought upon joy "as impactfully small the pieces may seem, the process of making them was the most fun." That's what matters the most. Being able to have fun with what you create. Along with the memories of her organizing this event with her friends. To showcase local artists and it turned out to be a "great success" she explained. Nothing better than a boost in the local art scene!
Although as time goes on we hit a bump on the road whether it may be work or any other priorities, but in some cases it is much harder "to find inspiration and the time to create when you are older" she explains. The difference in creating due to work against creating because you want to. Overall Madison confronts this with "that's just life!"
The valley and it's local art scene. Well "i'd say it's slow going, but it's getting better." I couldn't agree more with the latest art gallery done by Aficionado which is building a local platform for local artists. It was great seeing a crowd invested and supporting one another by buying what the artists had to sell and talk about their art. There certainly is hope "we just have to keep pushing the boundaries and make art!"
From pushing the boundaries Madison advises upcoming valley artists "just to be yourself and create work that you love, the audience will follow after that and you'll be happy with what you are producing."
Although Madison may not be able to work on her art as she pleases due to her obstacles and calls it "that's just life!" and the rough start it may be for upcoming valley artists. From her own personal experiences she believes there is hope and a chance for artists in the valley to bloom. That is the embodiment that she places onto Noodl. Her happiness and a smile to whatever comes next.
Noodl : The embodiment of happiness.
