I remember meeting Tito at Sauce House. I believe it was a show featuring Yruama, TV Flesh, Warp Drive, Comedian, and Dandy Heat. Beside it being a good show there was a good time being had. Something about Tito's art called my attention and I can't exactly place my finger on it, but he does something interesting with his work that we will get to in moment. This week's feature is Tito, @Takyonwoo5d
Before we start this was actually one of the first interviews I sent out when I started and until I started changing up the intro questions which I found interesting. Well aside from his
favorite food being "egg plant parm" as he continues with his favorite locals " DiseaseFreak, Edwin Voyager are my fav local artists. Foodamed is easily my favorite restaurant." I have heard and have spoken to Disease Freak and Edwin. I enjoyed their EP every much. I have not heard of "Foodamed" I'll have to look into that.
Looking at his work and how he implements newspaper into work makes me curious about his art style which he explains "Controlled Chaos is the best way to describe it. I try to implement everything I learn into my art in abstract ways. I have no formal training either so in a way it’s all just multimedia expressionism." Looking at his work and pieces I own by him I can most certainly agree. There is just so much even within a small "controlled" space which holds this "controlled chaos."
For how long as he been keeping this "controlled chaos" for? As he shares with us how he started "I drew all over my journals since as a child and took art in middle school and high school so its really just been something that I’ve made omnipresent in my life. I didn’t practice or really start creating outside of school until I was 17 I'm 19 now." He is still young and as time goes own he will grow along side his work. Maybe there will be experimentation or maybe even mastering his craft? Who knows, but as time continues only he shall know as we view what comes out of it.
With the mentioning of "chaos" is there some sort of influence or inspiration behind this as he says "whatever I'm going through, having it in my mind or reading is my primary inspiration.Seeing other good art is amazing as well." Seeing other work works well. There's nothing wrong with seeing something and finding a way to implement it yourself seeing how you can twist and work with it in your own way.
He mentions his favorite piece created so far being "El Toro" because "it was meant to be the third of the enigma paintings but ended up becoming what it did." I really enjoy the colors along with the shapes. The black background certainly makes its pop, but there is certainly a lot to take it the more I look upon it.
From the age of 17 to 19 has there been any differences in his work as he mentions "the way I use newspaper changed, it began as a means to fill in space while adding texture, now I pick the articles based off their subject matter." I like that he says "now I pick the articles based off their subject" which also must be bit more challenging finding newspaper that goes into the piece he is working on, but the fun must be had in finally finding it.
When it comes to the newspaper I do notice some of it left alone unlike other pieces and why is that? To which he explains "I choose industry for my concentration during my art appreciation course and newspaper happen to be one of those industries. As I continued to make art I started implementing it in different ways." There are many ways to use it and who knows he'll find many more or strike artistic gold personally for his work with a way that he implements in his future works.
What are his thoughts from vending at sauce house "I vended at the last Sauce House before the pandemic and that was the last event I ever did. The energy was amazing and I can’t wait to be able to get out and have people see the pieces in person!" It really was "great energy" and it's an event I won't forget.
He shares with us his thoughts on the local scene,
"I really don’t even feel like I’ve scratched the surface when it comes to the Valley’s art scene, pre-pandemic I wasn’t very active in the community. I never got to experience it pre-pandemic literally Sauce House was the one and only event I did before we lock down. But I am looking forward to getting involved and immersing myself in the community."
Along with some final thoughts,
"Create honestly and find your style through experimentation, new mediums always breed new inspirations."
