I stumbled upon Nelly a.k.a Lazy Boy and they had these cool shirts. It would be a post here and there until eventually I saw the flyer for their grand opening and I waited for the release. I can't recall if I went on the day of the opening or the day after. Either way this nice addition to the curators list in The Valley along side Tex a.k.a Lazarus Vintage
When it comes to local scene Nelly heavily supports the community and what they are doing. There isn't a moment where she doesn't involve herself or support in anyway. When it comes to music she mentions "SUPER, Yruama, Jessica" as Tex also mentions "L@s Skagaler@s" as Nelly mentions how its all good energy.
When it comes it supporting the community in what she does she mentions "the quality of clothes...helping the environment by giving these clothing a second. Most importantly having clothes at an affordable cost. Having everything affordable and to function." Tex adds in by saying "being able to provide a wide variety. From band, vintage, and so much more. There's so much that you can be experimental and try something new." Being able to experiment with your clothing is very important! You never know if what you just did became your new favorite fit or new favorite style. Along with what Nelly mentioned on affordability along with experimentation on a variety of clothing is just a double combo.
When it comes to their mission behind their shop they say "I feel like we are already achieving it by constantly keeping busy" as Tex mentions "opening up the shop was just the big step!" Nelly recalls a vintage shop she used to work at and mentions "I just wanted to be able to provide and now I get to do that." It certainly is big moves that can only keep growing from that! Recently they had their event called VISIONS which happened on May 15th which included an art showing of @glutenisfree, and @figmentof_urimagination along with some vendors as well.
How do they wish to grow along with the shop? She mentions being able to "bring new variety to people's rotations." Tex mentions "being able to work together and bring people together. With the clothes we provide we hope to provide the individuals with a unique identity with what they wear along with comfortability." We do make a statement with what we wear and we always change. My rotation has changed throughout the year and its changed due to what I find at local shops and being able to just try something new. So not only am I getting new clothes for my rotation, but I am also comfortable.
How can we bring sustainability awareness to the community as Tex says "people starting up their own shops and it allows more people to shop locally. It allows more clothing to be in a new home and be given new life. When it comes to awareness we can do workshops for the community and being able to up-cycle. Getting in touch with DIY fashion and creating something out of something. We can move this into the mainstream because its already kinda there and we slowly but surely connect it." I can see the DIY fashion, reworks happening. It can be very important as well. If we find something that we enjoy but its clinging to its last fiber of life we can turn it into something new or possibly even fix it. This is something to see eventually in the future.
When asked about what kind of clothing they enjoy collecting Nelly starts off by saying "well I do love my jean materials, but in the end it just comes down to being resourceful. Clothes is just so beautiful." Tex continues by saying "I like band tees and military surplus. There's been a surge in merch in the local shops. There was a period that business merch flooded the market and it flooded the goodwills. It can be very obscure and I love it." I do have a favorite material as well especially in my jeans. When it comes to obscure clothings I love shirts with random sayings on it.
Nelly shares her thoughts on the local scene in the valley,
"Its growing beautifully. What's crazy is that it's people our age who are just putting so much effort into what they want to do and what they enjoy. I really really enjoy it. From all these artists to the markets opening up. Especially in main street its just so cool. I love that people are putting themselves out there and thriving."
Tex shares his thoughts on this as well,
"Its great that people have been able to congregate. A lot more markets and more community events. There's a big opportunity to get back on things and bring growth. The artists are gonna be artin and we'll keep doing what we do!"
Nelly shares one final thought,
"I want people to keep in mind where their clothes come from and where it goes along with our money. Clothing is more than just an aesthetic and its more than just racks. Just keep an open mind."
Tex shares his final thoughts,
"Just pay attention to what we are doing."
