The Valley's Wrapped 2022

Here are the artists mentioned in this years valley wrapped! From artists I've been able to see live to those I've seen on flyers/on socials. There's always a new sound to be introduced to due to the varying amount of artists we have in the valley. As we continue with this years wrapped if you see someone you haven't listened to well now's the chance and even see them live! This is The Valley's 2022 Wrapped and here are the artists as they share and describe a little about their work.

  • Lil Duende

Lil Duende is a DJ and vibe curator extraordinaire running the DIY experimental rave series Touching Infinite.

I would describe my style and sound as forward-thinking while also paying homage to the pioneers/history of dance music. My sets reach wide across all energies & genres while mobilizing bodies and activating minds.

  • DJ Bbycat

Who is kitty?

She’s a tiny person with big ideas

I get my inspo from Animal Collective, Alan Palomo, Trent Reznor & Cut Copy. I thrive in indie/disco/funk genres. My ultimate goal is keep you on the dance floor. If your feet or bodies aren’t moving, I’m doing something wrong.

  • QueenKillahBee

Hailing from Mission, TX, QueenKillahBee has been dominating the RGV Club scene with her big-beat perreo heaters and experimental goth floorfillers. QKB has generated a cult-like fanbase around Texas and US and is occasionally a guest DJ across Houston, San Antonio, Brownsville, and Austin. Whether you are a hot-cheeto and pickle shot type of person or a dance-floor Viking, QueenKillahBee is guaranteed to light up and bless the club with her infectious, sweat-drenching sets.

  • MAD96

Who is MAD96?

My name is AB also known as MAD96. I am for the most part, a producer, collaborator, and engineer. You can find me working with other artists and bands on any given day. Occasionally I’ll play as a DJ, but my passion stays in the studio. I also oversee the music side at no—forma and Breaker Breaker. You can find most of my recent work on their pages.

How would you describe your style in DJing and the sound you play?

I love curating my sets based on the event and the crowd that’s coming out. That can be a soulful set where I let the songs play a little longer and go off the energy in the room or a more meticulous well thought out set where I know exactly how I’m going to transition every song and try to keep the crowd guessing. I’ve done strictly reggaeton nights, house sets that almost always end in heavy grime and D&B moments and throwback nights where every other track is taking you back to a specific memory.

I believe one of the DJ’s roles is to educate. I like to play music that you’ve never heard and introduce artists in your favorite genre that haven’t made it to your playlist. Ultimately, I like to make sure everybody is enjoying themselves and having a good time.

DJing is something I do purely for the enjoyment. I do take it seriously, but I wouldn’t consider it to be my main line of work.

Our band is a really fun energetic beer drinking type of band . Think blink-182 mixed with nofx and mxpx. We love to joke and make fun of each other all while trying to play the best music we possibly can .

  • ARTYISREAL

ARTYISREAL is a guy who just likes to have a REAL good time! I express myself through the medium of music and want to help people disconnect from the world one set at a time! I work on events from production to booking artists, even hopping behind the decks. It feels like I’m living the dream getting to immerse myself in this industry!

Certain settings can invoke different moods so I generally let the environment inspire me but I thrive in the House and Techno realm. Catch me playing anything in between a deep house set on a terrace and selecting hard techno sounds in a warehouse

  • Cat Bully Club

Ok so basically, my name is Carlos and I have been making music and running Sauce House shows in the Valley for a few years now! I used to play guitar w/ a band called tv flesh before the pandemic, but now I play bass in diseasefreak :)

Cat Bully Club is a side-project I started when I was in high school! I used to release my demos/ideas under that name but I never really had a clear vision for what I wanted it to be. Until now! I feel like I’ve gained a decent amount of experience in how music is written, created and ultimately released to where I feel like I can start making EPs and albums that actually mean something.

In its current form, Cat Bully Club isn’t really a BAND per se. I’ve released two singles so far and they were made almost completely on my computer haha. The sound is definitely leaning towards that kind of lo-fi garage rock sound and I have been experimenting with other genres of music just to see how it can all blend together to create something cool! Got a few demos cooking rn, maybe a single coming soon?

  • Dj Sessi

1. Who is DJ Sessi?

After inheriting some of their father's disco and classic rock record collection, Sessi began searching for records in thrift stores and record shops. Later on, a jukebox filled with 45s found its way to their Brooklyn apartment and it was then they discovered their love of funk and soul music. The jukebox disappeared, but Sessi kept the 45s. A collection grew across genres, music they felt should be shared and enjoyed by all. Sessi joined Chulita Vinyl Club RGV in April 2021 and has delighted in sharing this collection with their friends and community in the RGV

2. How would you describe your style in DJing and the sound you play?

I always want to play some disco, specifically Giorgio Moroder (or something produced by him), and I usually will slow and pitch tracks lower, and play with the mixer to add some effects. The most fun part about DJing for me is the mixer. I like figuring out how to continuously manipulate the sounds of a familiar track, figuring out where to take the set next. It becomes a sonic journey. It's great DJing as a collective because we can vibe off one another's sets, keeping the energy going between each CVC member.

  • Grim Figment

Grim Figment is a selector born and raised in South Texas who aims to curate a feeling and atmosphere that generates a platform to assist people in letting go and finding resonance with sound and movement. Hoping to help guide them in connecting with the depth of themselves and the innate personal power we all have within, grim carefully constructs sets that point towards a new direction against oppressive ideologies ingrained in the masses.

Grim loves to take people along on a sonic journey by attempting to tell a story through each and every one of his performances. Airy, ethereal vibrations transform into aggressive and hard hitting bass lines. Mechanical tones overcome by a geomorphic trance energy. The dynamism of the sounds rise and fall as smooth as the tides of the ocean. The consistent intertwining of various genres and the flow between them is a means to point to the complex interconnectedness of all things

  • The Blowupdollz

Who are the The Blowupdollz?

1. We got Alex on vocals jaz on guitar mya on drums and our new bassist is Nataly who just joined 2 weeks ago.

How would you describe your sound?

Our sound reminds us of some sort of gloomful angst we all take inspiration from our own tastes but generally we do a good job in meshing all of our personal sound from Alex’s gothic influenced lyrics to Myas punky spiky drums Jazmins punk chords progression and our newish member nat has been jamming with us and helping us move forward with our new songs we’re definitely creating something a bit more punk :p we’re excited for our new sound and how we’ll grow as a band

  • Yung Hickory

Who is yung hickory?: I’m a multi skilled industry specialist. You can find me getting comfortable on the soundboard during shows at The Gremlin, producing beats live on social media, or performing my written originals while on stage. I’m an composer taking pride in writing chord progressions, Instrument Melodies, and percussive rhythms as a canvas for my poems.

How would you describe your music and the sound you play?: I would first describe it as hip hop/rap music. I loop my keyboard jam sessions and digital percussion through an MPC, then fill the rest of the mix with my voice. Records capture experiences. You will find solace in the dark songs and be revitalized with the bright songs. Rhythm and poetry explore movement in all directions. Every album is a collective, but each song is individual. My music is to the sound I play as all people in the world are to the spirit that connects us. This song doesn’t always sound like the last one or the best one, but it’s always what it is. Boom. Bap.

  • JA4

Who is JA4? JA4, pronounced ‘Juh-four’ (think Jafar from Aladdin), is a project that’s been in the back of my mind for many years but is just now coming to fruition. I’ve long been a fan of EDM growing up and the idea of becoming a DJ had always been a desire of mine. I grew up playing piano from age 6 and played keys/organs/synths in a local cover band playing blues, rock, pop and punk music for local bars/venues. After disbanding, I found myself in a state of musical limbo until a very good friend of mine Emilio (a.k.a. Un Cuerpo) and I had a long conversation discussing our passion for electronic/dance music and our desire to mix. That very afternoon following our discussion, I made the decision to invest in a Pioneer DDJ-400 and I was off. Ever since that afternoon in October 2021, I’ve been working on honing my mixing skills and continue to learn from the many friends and colleagues I’ve made in the local DJ community.

How would you describe your mixing style and the sound you play? I primarily consider myself a house DJ. I take a lot of inspiration from classic house acts such as Daft Punk, Bob Sinclair and Todd Edwards; however, more modern house acts such as Disclosure, Kaytranada and TSHA have also been pushing my classic house sound into a more contemporary, high energy, dance vibe. While many DJs mix to transition from one track to the next, I try to make it a point to keep elements of the previous track and use them to spice up the track I cued up next.

  • DJ Chair Xiaoming

Who is Chair?

Chair is short for Chairman like boss (cc: Mao Zedong).

How would you describe your Dj Style? What do you enjoy?

Emotional R&B and Soundcloud Rap. Growing up I used to unload trucks at Wal-Mart in the summers. It was like 120 degrees in the trucks doing hardcore manual labor moving boxes and only way I got through it was playing music. I had headphones at first, so there was no pressure and I could throw on whatever I wanted - usually Atlanta trap or heartbreak R&B. Eventually someone brought a speaker and started taking turns throwing shit on and when it got to my turn people were always fucking with it even though I was just throwing my own playlists on there - mind you I worked with like hella different types of mfers like from other kids to grown ass men with families lol. I feel like music is like an ultimate form of catharsis and it got the power to get you through anything and connect people when it’s real.

  • Slut Garden

@pahlermortis - lead guitar/ vocals @allycatdrums - drums @cchurchmom666 - bass A three piece we’ve been labeled sludge, groove ,“stoner metal”, grunge, thrash. Our music is a outlet for us, it therapeutic, what comes out is distortions, our anger, but all together it’s a extension of us musically, we come from a dark place, we are outcasts , we grew up hearing and seeing things most people don’t , this music is our message to our enemies, society and people just like us

  • YO$H

Who is YO$H- YO$H is more of a vibe, a feeling, a familiar place that you have been to before. He isn’t really a person, just someone who wants to see people dance and forget about life for a while. But if you must know. I’m 27 years old I’ve been djing for about a year and a half. I’m vegetarian, love doing jiu jitsu, and love to dance and be a freak. You can always be weird around me.

How would u describe your style in DJing and the sound you play- Id say I have multiple sounds for my multiple personalities. But I love house, techno and tech house. But that classic house sound or disco house is chefs kisses. I love that old school samples, makes me feel like it’s the 70s. But if you would like to watch YO$H live you can follow my insta: Yedi_yosh. I post my weekly flyers. I mainly play in the RGV and Houston. Also i drop mixes on SoundCloud. So go check them out, you can find me by DJ YO$H. Love y’all hope to see y’all soon

Noisecore

  • No Fucking Way

Who's in the band?

The line up is: Rob- Bass/Vocals, Javi- Guitar, Chris- Drums

How would you describe your sound? In the broad general sense we’re a punk band. Its what we grew up on and still listen to a lot. All 3 of us have had ties to the punk scene down here for years, but we all pull from a bunch of different influences when writing songs. From stuff like pop and electronic music to hardcore and black metal so our songs kind of vary from one to the next and have elements from each of our personal influences sprinkled throughout.

  • Principium

We are a band of 5 Chris Cruz on vocals and rhythm guitar, Lincoln Torkelson on piano and vocals, Robert Flores on lead guitar, Rosendo Corona on bass, and Jorge Herrera on the drums.

We are an Indie/alternative band. Our project is meant for the listeners to connect with it, each with their own interpretation as the listener may have a different idea or experience that they could relate to the music.

Our sound could be described as mellow or in some cases even dramatic. We go for a style in which the music is emphasized with a variation of transitions and arrangements that we all put into the songs. The music is accompanied by Chris’s lyrics which are inspired from personal experiences to imagined scenarios or stories and as said before the meaning of these lyrics can be up to the interpretation of the listener.

  • Blam!

So first we are Blam! From Harlingen, TX. The members of the band are Angel (bassist), Auriel (drummer), Jalen (lead singer and guitarist), Dante (lead guitarist). We are a band that has influences from all over the spectrum, for example Angel is into punk while dante is into blues and jazz. So we really blend a lot of genres together to create a fusion of punk, metal, classic rock, blues, and jazz but if I had to really put ourselves in a genre I’d call it alternative because I wouldn’t know what else to call it haha!!

This weekend!

  • Martin Leon Band

The members in the band include Angel “Danny” Hernandez (Drummer), Francisco Cunha (Bassist), and myself Martin Leon (Singer and guitarist)

We are a 3 piece band that writes and plays original music in an alternative/rock genre. We base our sound in a mix of what made some of our favorite 60s & 70s records and the sound of the new generation of music. But most importantly, our band consists of a sound that brings out the best in people. We love inciting emotions in others when they listen to our music. It’s our favorite way of connecting with them.
