When I think of "Upbeat RGV" @upbeatrgv I think about "Sunday//Reset" and the varying DJs on the line up on a SUNDAY. Sundays, the final day of the week (to some people), the find day before we go back to our 9 to 5 or our regular scheduled routine. Arturo implementing "dancing your stresses away" before hitting the big M(onday). We each have our ways of enjoying or last day of freedom, but events like these cater to the interests of folks.
There's more to Upbeat RGV than just Sunday//Reset as Arturo or known as Arty @artyisreal shares with us in just a moment!
Before we begin I ask Arturo if he has any shout outs he'd like to give out?
"I would like to give a shout out to the whole Upbeat RGV team for always working
together to put these events together, and to the people who come out to our events without them we wouldn't be able to do what we love, which is dance!"
Now what exactly is Upbeat RGV LLC? Do you have a mission statement behind Upbeat RGV? A goal as Arturo states "Upbeat RGV is many things. We are a collective of Djs who work at different bars/clubs with the ultimate goal of
getting people to dance with their friends and hopefully forget about the outside world and just live in the moment." Once I read "collective of DJs who work at different bars/clubs" I finally understood, the pieces really came together. Looking at the different names I made me think of where they DJ at. That's pretty cool!
As a DJ leading Upbeat RGV what led you to want to create this? How did the idea come about as Arturo shares "the idea came about because I wanted to create more opportunities. A lot of DJs and venues weren't willing to try new and aspiring talent when I was beginning in the industry. So we just want to create a platform for DJs trying to get in front of an audience and experience what it feels like to perform in front of a crowd. The idea is to bring unity, and provide opportunities in the scene. The more our local djs get to perform the better it is for the entire scene in the RGV. Now with the help of my Upbeat team we've been able to host weekly events and give every DJ in the RGV, experienced or not, a chance to play music they enjoy to a crowd with open ear" The idea of established artists creating a platform to bring in new talent, bring in folks who want to DJ in public for the first is great! How does one grow without putting themselves out there y'know? It's an opportunity that is out there and available through Upbeat RGV. Love to see it.
Looking through your images I thought Upbeat RGV was a venue, but you CREATE the space by bringing EVERYTHING to create your domain to the specific locations you set up at as Arturo exclaims "Yes, we really don't have our own venue but we work with several locations around the valley. These venues give us the canvas and let us paint it and hopefully turn it in to something everyone likes." I always thought that Upbeat RGV was a venue due to the set up images/videos taken before the events, but it's everyone coming together doing their part for the event at designated locations for the event, wow.
What has your experience been with Upbeat RGV? What would you say brings you joy Upbeat RGV? From putting together the line up, the event, setting the room ect. "I have loved working with Upbeat RGV the whole time they have given me the opportunity to really live out a dream i have had which is play the music i love and help put together these events. I enjoy being able to give people a stage to play on where they can also play the music they love. Being able to see the process of hitting up the artists and planning production with the is always fun to do as well."
I can imagine the coordination for the Sunday//Reset series, meeting new artists, creating new line ups, because looking through each flyer the names, the variety which would imply that the sound is different or thematic due to each artists style.
Have you had feedback from those who come out to your events? Is there something that has stuck with you as he says "people really like the production and sound we do! Lasers people really love lasers! Shout out to Juan 'Zeruel' he runs our FOH. People really appreciate the work that we put into these shows and can tell that we put all that we have into our events." As I mentioned, everyone is really bringing something to these events. Besides the DJing, it sounds like everyone has a set skills such as production, set up, and lasers for example. Everyone in the collective really be puzzle piece being Upbeat RGV. I see the lasers in the images/videos and I must agree...they do go hard.
How do you wish to expand UpbeatRGV? Any ideas you'd like to share?
"We are hoping to keep making our events bigger and bigger and sharing our love for all dance music with the masses and hopefully someday find a home we can call our own. We plan on doing this by growing our community and giving back to it in whatever way we can like hosting takeovers and up and coming djs."
I see flyers, but flyers for events on Sundays. As they're called "Sunday Reset." How did this idea come about and what's the meaning behind them? '"Sunday Reset' is our weekly dance music event at rewind, we give our local djs a place to come play a set which is usually house and techno and occasionally we will have an unhinged night which consists of bass music like dubstep, riddim, DnB, hard dance no holds barred, show us what you got! Ultimately Sunday Reset came from a lack of dance music in the valley and we were fortunate to find a location to give us a weekly residency but also a place to RESET and get ready for the coming week by dancing all our stress away!" It's how I mentioned earlier, folks have various ways of de-stressing on the weekends. Shows/Events tend to happen Thursday-Saturday. but having "Sunday//Reset" on Sunday allows people to go out one last time before the new week begins. For example I play magic with my friends on Sunday for hours, but that's not for everybody. Everyone has their own specific interest and if yours is house/techno well Sunday//Reset may be just for you!
Do you have any sneak peak artists you have planned to bring down that you can share or a sound you plan on bringing down that you're excited for?
We are currently looking and booking some high energy artists which we are very
excited to announce as well as a the return of our pool party in the summer which was a success last year.
Any final comments you'd like to make?
Thank you to John and Yannin the founders of the collective and to all those who believe and trust in us! Thank you to the people who come out every weekend or whenever they can to dance with us and thank you to the community who has always been loving and supportive.
